What is learner centered instruction (LCI)?

It is the instruction that focuses on the learner and the learning process.  The teacher establishes learning goals, develops and chooses learning strategies according to the student´s needs, and finally, the teacher encourages students to take responsibility for their own learning-

b. What is the main role of the teacher in LCI?

The main role in my personal opinion is to do the student gain confidence in his/her ability to learn and to use the language.  Teacher is a facilitator, guide, not just an instructor.

c. Explain the 4 key principles of student centered learning.

1.  It focuses on student learning; the teacher must engage students in the hard work of learning.

2. It doesn´t have one specific method to learn; the teacher must encourage students to think, to analyze, to solve problems, to evaluate evidence, etc.

3. It has a constructivist approach; students have to reflect on what they are learning and how they are learning it.  The goal is to make students aware of themselves as learners and to make learning skills something students want to develop.

4. Students are active elements in the class; teachers must recognize the students can learn from and which each other.  Students must share Knowledge, ideas, and be active members in the process of learning. She must give some control over learning processes.
