LCI is an approach to teaching that focuses on both the learner and learning. Major features of LCI includes personalized learning, social and emotional support, self-regulation, authentic tasks, and collaboration.
b. What is the main role of the teacher in LCI?
The teacher takes the role of the facilitator because he provides students opportunities to learn independently. Teacher assumes active and colaborative learning by using a constructivist approach. It means teacher involves students can be able to build their own knowledge . Also this new focus permits teacher can coach the students´skills they need to do so effectively.
c. Explain the 4 key principles of student centered learning.
Learning is personalized.- The term personalized learning, or personalization, refers to a diverse variety of educational programs, learning experiences, instructional approaches, and academic-support strategies that are intended to address the distinct learning needs, interests, aspirations, or cultural backgrounds of individual students.
Learning is competency based.- The most important characteristic of competency-based education is that it measures learning rather than time. Students progress by demonstrating their competence, which means they prove that they have mastered the knowledge and skills (called competencies) required for a particular course, regardless of how long it takes.
Learning happens anytime, anywhere.- Learning takes place beyond the traditional school day, and even the school year. The school’s walls are permeable learning is not restricted to the classroom
Students Take Ownership .- Student-centered learning engages students in their own success, and incorporates their interests and skills into the learning process. Students support each others progress and celebrate success.
