What is learner centered instruction (LCI)?

This is an active and cooperative learning. Students are center of the learning process, teachers promote an independent work and seek to develop the creativity and criticism in each student. Students are able to solve all kind of problems do not matter the situations. LCI involves students in different activities as role plays, simulations and other activities in order to increase the motivation in class.

What is the main role of the teacher in LCI?

The role of the teacher in LCI is to provide instructions and motivation to students through a series of opportunities oriented to develop a critical and creative thinking.

4 key principles of student centered learning

Firstly is Learning is personalized, this means teachers must analyze each situation of students, their abilities, attitudes, needs, beliefs, social context, and so on. From all this cultural context teachers focus the learning process, so that all students have de same opportunities.

Second is Learning is based in competences (curriculum), namely the entire group of plans of classes must be centered in each student and they must response to development of competences according the curriculum.

Third is Learning happens anytime and anywhere, it is to say not only in classroom  learning occurs but also outside it, for that is mandatory teacher motivates  and gives the necessary tools to students  in order that learning  continues everywhere regardless of time and place.

Finally, Students take ownership; students take conscious or empower about the responsibilities in the accomplishment of their role, thus teacher must engage students in fun and real activities for generating interest and giving enough motivation.
